Taking it Easy

Posted by Jen on Jul-21-2010

I slept in until 1:30 pm on July 17, 2010.  Ivan and Lil Dave were already awake.

We had lunch at the cafe again.  I had a tuna and boiled egg sandwich.  Ivan had a chicken and avocado sandwich.  Lil Dave got banana and peanut butter sandwich.

We used the internet for awhile in the Playa Bella reception area.

We walked to the beach.  It was good to relax and have an easy day.

We went on our floats in the water.  I chilled and read my book.  The beach is nice here.  But, there’s a lot of hard surfaces in the shallow water.

For dinner, we went to Relish.  Lil Dave had a nice banana and salmon dish.  Ivan and I started off with a spicy thai fish cake and a brochette with mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce and pesto.  Then, we got a cajun chicken salad and the wonderful salmon dish.

The cajun chicken salad wasn’t as good as last time.  The meal was really great.

We walked back to the hotel.  Ivan and I were thinking about going out.  But, we were so tired that we fell asleep right when we laid down.

Wet Dancing

Posted by Jen on Jul-20-2010

Ivan, Lil Dave and I had lunch at Playa Bella Cafe on July 16, 2010.  I had a chicken sandwich while Ivan had tuna.  Lil Dave had a banana salad.  My sandwich wasn’t anything special.

Ivan went to the beach and laid on his float in the water.

I worked on the blog and read in the room.

We got a taxi to San Antonio.  I was hungry so we walked to Subway to get sandwiches.

Next, we walked to Bladerunner.  We were taking a speed boat tour.  The boat went super fast.  The driver would stop suddenly and then turn sharply which made water fly into the boat .  It was crazy fun!  I love going fast in boats.  We were really wet after the 2 hour boat ride.

We walked to Koppas Cafe for dinner.  Lil Dave got a banana paella.  Ivan and I shared a delicious seafood paella and a boring salmon dish.  The salmon dish was really tasteless.

I was still wet from the boat ride.  We looked around a few shops for shorts, but I couldn’t find anything that fit.  Ivan thought we should head back.  We got a taxi to the hotel.

I changed into dry clothes.  Our taxi driver took us back to San Antonio.

A short while later, we got the discobus to Privilege.  Privilege is a huge club that reminds me of a big warehouse.  Ivan found out later that it actually was one before.  We were attending the event called SupermartXe.  Above the big stage, there’s a huge tv screen.  There was lots of naked people on the stage.  On another stage, a lady in a huge martini glass poured champagne on her body.  There was also acrobatics and a man riding a bike on tightrope.    The entertainment happened about every 5-10 minutes and only lasted a few minutes.  Ivan wished that the entertainment was more constant.

The music wasn’t so great.  It was generic house which was just alright.  At one point, the music stopped for 15 minutes.  Later on, the music stopped again for only two minutes.

It was a good night of dancing.  The club had a good crowd inside.  It wasn’t extremely busy which is nice.  We like to have enough room to dance and not have people bumping into us every couple of minutes.  We got a taxi back to the hotel at 6:30 am.

Floating Hypnosis

Posted by Jen on Jul-18-2010

On July 15, 2010, we checked out of Hotel Marfil.  We had a great stay there.  The staff is very friendly.

We got a taxi to our new hotel.  We checked in to Playa Bella apartments.  We were upgraded from a studio to a one room apartment.

We walked to the Playa Bella cafe.  Ivan ordered a jacket potato (baked potato) with beans while I got one with tuna.  Lil Dave got a chicken and banana baguette.  My potato tasted great with the tuna.

We went back to the apartment.  Since our air conditioning didn’t work, we had to switch to a new room.  We got lucky since it had an awesome sea view.

Ivan went to the beach.  I met up with him later.  He bought two floats.  We laid on our floats.  We were floating in the lovely blue sea.  I love the beach and the water.  Later, I read my book Mary, Mary by James Patterson while chilling in a beach chair.

We walked back to our apartment.

We went to dinner at Relish.  Lil Dave got a big banana salad.  Ivan and I shared a good cajun chicken salad.  Then, we had a tuna and salmon dish.  The tuna didn’t have much flavor.  The salmon was delicious.

We walked to the Playa Bella Cafe.  It was time for bingo.  We played three games but didn’t win.  The closest we came to winning was me with one number left.

At 10:30 pm, the Andie Field hypnosis show started.  Andie only got seven volunteers.  After the induction, only three volunteers remained.  The show was boring and painful to watch.  We wished that it would hurry up and end.  We didn’t think it was funny.  The audience liked it though.  It really was a bad hypnosis show.  I know Ivan would have done a better show.

Choppy Dancing

Posted by Jen on Jul-17-2010

Ivan, Lil Dave and I went to a sandwich place by the hotel on July 14, 2010.  Ivan and I both got cajun chicken while Lil Dave got chicken and banana.

It took me forever to sleep last night.  I only got a few hours sleep.

We walked to the beach.  We ate our sandwiches under the shade of the umbrella.  I was so tired that I took a much needed nap.  Ivan read his book.  We went into the water.

We walked to Rita’s.  We were going on a sunset cruise.  Ivan signed up for it at Hotel Marfil.

We boarded the yacht.  The group consisted of us, two couples and Lil Dave the monkey.  We drove to the northwest side of Ibiza.  We passed by hills that were really pretty.

My stomach felt bad.  Ivan and I both felt queasy.  I think it might have been the sandwiches we had for lunch.  The waves were a bit choppy.

We stopped in an area to relax and swim.  I went into the sea for a little while.  It was a little cold.

We set off again to find a nice place for the sunset.  We stopped at one area, but there was too many waves.  We drove to another place.  It was better there.  It became choppy again though.  Ivan and I really couldn’t enjoy it though since we didn’t feel well.  Lil Dave really enjoyed being on the yacht.

The sunset was alright, a bit cloudy at the horizon.  We had champagne and tapas.  Lil Dave had a nice banana.

We headed back.  The cruise was nice.  We wished we could have relaxed on the yacht.  It was a shame that we didn’t feel good.

We walked back to the hotel.  We took showers and got ready.  Lil Dave decided to stay in.  He wanted to jump on the bed and do his Math homework.

We got a taxi to Pacha.  If you eat at the nightclub, it’s free entrance to the nightclub.  Ivan thought we would have to pay €50 per person minimum.  It was time for dinner.  We sat down at Pacha restaurant.  The server gave us a pastry to start off with.  We had a spicy edamame for our appetizer.  Then, we shared delicious tuna and salmon dishes.  I thought we should try the fondant with macadamia and ice cream for dessert.  It was tasty.  The meal turned out wonderful.

When the bill came, Ivan noticed that we were charged for the pastry that we got at the start.  Ivan said he wouldn’t pay the €7.  We were never informed about it.  The manager came over.  He said it was the service charge.  So, basically it was the tip.  He said we could pay €70 per person or pay the service charge.  Ivan said that he’d pay it.

We walked into the nightclub Pacha.  The club is supposed to be the best nightclub in the world.  It didn’t seem like anything special inside.  The event was called Voodoo Nights.  There was lots of themeing such as big voodoo dolls, dancers in red leather and skull chandeliers.  We had a great time dancing to Erick Morillo.  We got a taxi back to the hotel at 4:30 am.

Mambo Sunset

Posted by Jen on Jul-16-2010

I woke up feeling bad on July 13, 2010.  My stomach hurt.  Ivan got sandwiches nearby.  We ate in bed while we watched the movie Kevin and Perry Go Large on the laptop.

We chilled in the room.  I didn’t feel good enough to venture to the beach.  Ivan took a walk.

We walked to Cafe Mambo for dinner.  This restaurant is known for the awesome view of the sunset.  Ivan and I started off with Mambolicious which comes with fried calamari rings, chicken skewers, patatas bravas, shrimp tempura and spring rolls.  Lil Dave got bananas bravas and shrimps stuffed with bananas.

Ivan and I also got a good chicken and mango salad.  We relaxed and drank Rose wine.  The sunset turned out to be really pretty.

We went back to the hotel.  I wasn’t still wasn’t feeling so well.  We decided to have an easy night in.

Sun & Water

Posted by Jen on Jul-15-2010

Ivan, Lil Dave and I walked to the Moto Luis Rent-a-Car office on July 12, 2010.  Ivan got a motorbike for the day.  I bought flip flops at a store nearby.

Ivan drove us to Cala Bassas beach which took about 20 minutes.  It’s a lovely beach with soft sand and clear blue water.  It’s much nicer than the beach in San Antonio.

We had lunch at a cafe there.  Ivan and I shared a chicken baguette and a plain omelet baguette.  Lil Dave got a banana and honey baguette.  The food was rather plain.

I chilled on my towel on the beach.  Ivan laid on the sand.  Lil Dave ran around the beach.  It was a really hot day.  The water was cold, but it felt good.  We read our books. Ivan took a nap.

We drove back to San Antonio.  Ivan drove around to find a place to get our haircuts.  We went to IBZ Look.  I was put into a chair and the lady put a mask in my hair.  The chair started vibrating.  It wasn’t just a regular massage, but it was vibrating to a house beat.  That was very fitting since we were in Ibiza.  I found it funny and weird at the same time.  Ivan and I both got our hair cut.

Ivan drove us around the centre trying to find new sandals.  He finally found a good pair.  His last pair broke at the beach.

We drove back towards the hotel.  We had dinner at El Rebost.  Somebody at our hotel recommended it to Ivan.  Lil Dave ate fish with bananas.  Ivan and I got chicken with shrimps which had a nice gravy and Codfish “El Rebost”.  We decided to get dessert.  We shared a yummy flaon which is different from a flan.  Also, we ate cheese and quince.  It was a great meal.

We chilled in the hotel for a short while.  Then, it was time to check out the clubs.  We walked towards Eden.  We got a free wristband for Es Paradis.  That was nice since the entrance fee was €40 per person.  We sat near the beach and drank vodka drinks.  Alcoholic drinks at the clubs can be very expensive.

We walked towards the clubs.  We were given free wristbands to Eden.  Ivan thought we should check out Eden.  We walked inside.  Eden looks like any ordinary club which could be located anywhere.  It’s nothing special at all.  The music playing wasn’t very good.

We went to Es Paradis.  The DJ was playing some great music.  We danced there for awhile.  The event was The Water Party.  It was a quiet night at the club.  I believe at around 5 am, water started coming onto the dance floor.  We thought it would stop, but it didn’t.  The round dance floor area was now a pool.  We had so much fun dancing in the water.  I liked splashing people.  It was so much fun!!  The dance floor was about 2 feet deep.  We left the club at 6:30 am.  What a great night!

Beach Day

Posted by Jen on Jul-14-2010

On July 11, 2010, we had the free breakfast at the hotel.  It’s great that the breakfast is open until noon.

We got our beach gear together.  Ivan, Lil Dave and I walked to the beach across the street from Es Paradis.  We got two beach chairs and an umbrella.  It costs €5 each.

We chilled on the beach chairs in the shade.  Ivan and I went in the water.

It was really hot out, so it was odd that the water was cold.  The sand at the beach isn’t soft, but actually kind of hard.

Ivan went to get sandwiches at a shop in the centre.  We had lunch and read our books.  We all took naps.  Lil Dave wanted to build a sand castle.  But, the sand needed to be moist.

We walked back to the hotel.  Ivan and I took showers and got ready.

We walked to Cafe Mambo.  The football match was going to be on soon and we wanted to watch it.  Unfortunately, the only tables available didn’t have a view of the projector screen.

It was a short walk to the centre.  We had dinner at Cafe Koppas Restaurant.  It was really busy.  We had an okay view of the tv screen.  Lil Dave ordered a banana pizza.  Ivan and I shared grilled swordfish and a very tasty vegetable paella.

We left the restaurant.  Nobody had scored yet.  So, we walked further to the huge projector screen.  There was lots of people watching.  When the match ended and Spain won – people started jumping up and down and hugging each other.  A big celebration was going on.  People were driving around and honking their horns.

We walked to the hotel and chilled.  We had a few big nights ahead of us, so we didn’t go out.  Ivan wanted to see how it was outside.  He walked to West End Street.  The street was crowded and filled with lots of people celebrating.

Ivan, Lil Dave and I walked to the city centre on July 10, 2010.  We had lunch at Wok to Walk.  It was a nice change to have noodles instead of tapas.

We walked around the city.  It was hot out, so we got a taxi to the City of Arts & Science.  The buildings are amazing.  There’s not much inside.  A massive pool is outside.

Ivan thinks it should be made into a public swimming pool.  There’s a museum and a hemispheric theatre.  We got a taxi back to the Old Town.  We walked back to the apartment.

We talked with Borja for awhile.  He’s a funny, sweet and fun guy.  We had an awesome time with him in Valencia.  He drove us to the airport.

Our flight was delayed 25 minutes.  We left at 6:30 pm.  We reached Ibiza at 7 pm.  We got our luggage and then waited for the bus.  The bus took us to San Antonio.

We checked in to Hotel Marfil.  We relaxed in the room for while.  The wi-fi wasn’t working in the room.  Ivan used the internet downstairs.

Ivan, Lil Dave and I walked to the city centre.  Ivan checked out the menus to find a good restaurant.  We had dinner at Stephan’s.  Lil Dave got a chicken and banana kebab.  Ivan and I shared a domenican salad and a delicious seafood paella.  The paella comes with a sangria for €14.50.  The sangria was way too sweet.  Ivan and I thought it would be nice to have that seafood paella again.

We walked around San Antonio.  We checked out Cafe Mambo and Cafe Del Mar.  These places are known for their great view of the sunset. Then, we walked back to the centre.  We walked to Eden and Es Paradis to see how the buildings looked.  Everybody was tired so we walked back.

Ivan and I used the internet for a short while and then it was off to bed.

Having another Go

Posted by Jen on Jul-12-2010

On July 9, 2010, Borja took Ivan, Lil Dave and me to the Cooltra office.  We rented a Go Car exactly like the one we got in Barcelona.  But, it’s run through Cooltra.  The Go Car is a talking car.  It gives you directions and information about what you’re driving by.  The lady at the counter didn’t seem to know how to connect the GPS to the car.  She said that it’s charging and said we should go.  She had a line and seemed to be in a rush.

Ivan started driving on the Beach Route.  It was really hot outside.  We were driving for about 20 minutes and then we heard a beep and the GPS voice stopped.  We drove back to the office.  The lady didn’t connect something before. It was actually charging now.

We drove to the beach.  We were meeting Borja there.  We walked to Alegria de la Huerta  For lunch, there’s a three course set menu for €11.50 per person. Lil Dave decided to get a banana paella.  For starters, Ivan, Borja and I got shrimps, fish and a salad.  The seafood paella came next.  Paella was created in Valencia.  This paella was dry and some of it was burnt.  It didn’t really have much flavor.  Ivan and I prefer the paella to be moist.  Borja ordered three different desserts to try.  Ivan and I enjoyed the Tarta de Crema Catalana.  The food was real good.

Ivan told the lady at the office earlier that the car comes with a full tank of gas.  She said we had to put some in.  So, we stopped at a gas station.  Ivan said he’d try to get money back later.

Ivan drove along the Beach Route.  The map that the company gives you isn’t very detailed, so we got lost a few times.

We saw many sights like Virgin Square, Formula 1 track, the Mestalla Stadium, city centre, dry river, Botanical Gardens, IVAM the art museum and the City of Arts & Science buildings.

It’s great driving around in the Go Car.  A lot of people wave or cheer.  We had many people honking at us.  We returned the car.  Ivan told her that on the website it states that the car comes with a full tank of gas.  He said he paid €4 for it, but we didn’t have a receipt.  She called her boss.  He said he would only give €2.  The Go car is lots of fun.  But, the company who runs it isn’t good and the map they supply sucks.

We walked to the city centre.  Ivan called Borja.  He said to walk to Starbucks and he’d meet us there.  We met him there a few minutes later.  Borja introduced us to his girlfriend.

We walked to Sol i Lluna.  Ivan and I had a glass of red wine.  Borja’s girlfriend doesn’t speak much English.  We talked about our sightseeing in the Go Car and hypnosis.  Borja had to translate for his girlfriend.

It was time for dinner.  We walked to Restaurant Serranos.  Lil Dave had two portions of banana bravas.  Borja ordered lots of tapas such as the tasty cod, bocadillos, spicy shrimp and mussels.  Ivan and I had some red wine.  Borja wrote a big list of suggestions for Ibiza on the paper tablecloth for us.  We left the restaurant satisfied and full.

We walked around more.  Borja ran into two of his friends.  People were passing out free drink coupons.  Borja got some.  We headed to Radio City.  It was packed in the club.  Borja exchanged the drink coupons for mojitos.  Lil Dave wanted a banana mojito, but he’s way too young to drink.  We only stayed for a few minutes.

We walked back to the apartment.  We were so knackered.  Ivan thinks it’s because we’ve been eating late, but I think it’s because we walk around so much.  It was time to get some rest.

On July 8, 2010, Ivan, Lil Dave and I checked out of Hotel Astari. We checked our backpacks into the luggage storage.

We walked to get lunch at Old Town.  We went to Txantxangorri again.  Ivan and I shared a few tapas, potato bravas and the same tasty salad from last night.  Lil Dave had a banana salad.

We got a taxi to the train station.  We left at 3:55 pm to Valencia.  Ivan called Borja, the couchsurfer we’d be staying with, to let him know that we’d be there at 6:20 pm.  He said that he was tall and I was short and we’d be there with lots of bags.

We watched some shows on the laptop.  Ivan took a nap.  I watched an episode of V.

We got there at 6:21 pm.  Borja met us at the train station.  He drove us to his apartment.  It’s very close to the station.  It’s a nice place located right in the Old Town.

We talked to him on his balcony about life, working and couchsurfing.  He’s a very cool guy.

Borja asked if we wanted to take a walk.  We started walking around the city.  Lil Dave went exploring on his own.  He wanted to see if he could find any monkeys in the city.  We visited the beautiful Virgin Square.

We walked around more.

Borja took us to Restaurant Serranos.  It’s a locals tapas restaurant.  Ivan wanted to order a couple tapas, but Borja said we should only order one.  He said we’d be going to another tapas place later on.  Ivan told Borja earlier that we don’t eat beef or pork.  I do sometimes since I grew up eating it.  Ivan picked a tasty fried cod dish.  Borja got fried croquettes with ham.  He wanted us to taste it.  But, he said it had ham in it.  It sounded like he said jam, but jamon does mean ham in Spanish.  He said there’s only a little bit.  Ivan said no.  Ivan said Jen will have some.  It tasted good, but it tasted like ham. I don’t understand why he would think that a little ham would be alright for a vegetarian to eat.

We walked to Bar Pilar.  Ivan and I had red wine.  We ordered potato bravas and fried calamari.  The food was so tasty.

We met up with Borja’s friends at the park.  I don’t remember their name at all.  Then, we walked to a tapas restaurant.  His friend got two dishes.  Ivan and I drank water.

We walked back to the square.  We said goodbye to his friends.  Headed back to the apartment.  Since we were so tired, we all went to sleep.
