Kilkenny and Guinness

Ivan, Lil Dave and I had to wake up even earlier on June 2, 2010.  We had a quick breakfast.

We were picked up by the bus at 8:30 am.  It was the last day of our Paddy Wagon bus tour.  We drove to the small city Kilkenny.

We walked around the High Street trying to find a place for lunch.  Ivan and I found a cheap place for sandwiches and wraps.  We ate at Nostalgia Cafe.  I had a chicken, onion, lettuce and egg wrap.  Lil Dave had a banana salad wrap.  Ivan had a vegetable soup and a tuna sandwich.  The food was alright.

We sat down in the big grass area which is next to Kilkenny Castle.  I was so happy that it was another sunny day.

We met up with the group on the bus.  We drove to Dublin.  The group was going to visit the Guinness Storehouse.  It’s not a brewery tour, but actually a museum. You do learn about how Guinness is made.  But, you don’t actually see it being made or bottled.  It’s not worth the admission price of €15.  It didn’t cost us anything since it was included with the Paddy Wagon tour.  We also saw advertising.

At the top, there’s a Gravity Bar.  Here we got a free pint of Guinness.

Ivan and I each got a pint.  The view of Dublin was great.  We talked a bit with some of the people from the group.

We piled on the bus.  Our guide Martin dropped people off.  We got off at O’Connell Street.

We had a good time on the Paddy Wagon Tours bus.  We didn’t really talk that much with the rest of the group.  They were all nice though.  Our guide was nice, but he wasn’t really that lively.  It was good craic (good times) during our bus tour.

Ivan checked us in to the Best Western Academy Premiere Hotel. We liked it before and it had fast free internet.

We walked to Temple Bar for dinner.  We ate at an Italian restaurant called Il Vicoletto.  Lil Dave got a banana penne with a tomato sauce.  Ivan and I shared a four course meal.  Our appetizer was a tasty pear, salmon and rocket dish drizzled with balsamic vinegar.  Our next course was a mild tasting spinach and ricotta ravioli with vegetables.

The main course was chicken with herbs and vegetables on the side.  It was delicious.  Dessert was pears with mint chocolate chip ice cream.  It was a really good meal!

We walked to the Savoy Theatre.  We watched the funny movie She’s Out of My League.
